Bobby Brown "Good Enough"

Album: Bobby (MCA; 1992)
Songwriters: Babyface, LA Reid and Darryl Simmons
R&B Peak Position: #5

"I keep pumpin' every minute girl..."

While Bobby's rebellious flair was best served with upbeat New Jack rhythms, his forays into the mid-tempo ballad realm could be just as good ("Rock Wit'cha" for example), especially when it came to getting his screaming female fans to part with their underwear.

The bedroom-y midtempo "Good Enough", from 1992's Bobby, saw Brown infusing his signature "Bad Boy of R&B" spirit in a plush, Laface-handled arrangement. Counterpointing the track's tamed vibe, Brown titillates with sex god guarantees that would make the PG-rated Boyz II Men blush. "We don't need no sheets, we can just close the door," he states before moving to kiss "both" of her lips and "taste (her) wine". And if, for whatever reason, that's not enough to make her hot, the hook gladly asserts that he'll try even harder to achieve satisfying results (No wonder Whitney was married to him for so long).

One great heaping of pelvic-pumping raunch charmingly wrapped in a boyish croon, "Good Enough" landed as one of Brown's last major solo chart hurrahs. After Bobby, his tenure as a top R&B loverman came to a close, but his influence would surely live on in the years to come through modern-day singer/ dancers like Usher and Chris Brown.

Best Moment: The salacious bridge line: "Slow movin' in your body/ Feels like I'm gonna be in here all night". And to think, back then, this was considered edgy. (2:53)
